Wollongong looking north-east from the lighthouse

Tuesday September 11 2001 was a day the world will long remember.   The largest icon of American influence on global trade - the "World Trade Center" was destroyed along with the lives of several thousand people within it.   This was an enormous tradegy yet seen by many as a response to US foreign policy and global inequity.   While no association between the horrific attack and the anti-globalisation movement is suggested it is certainly interesting to note that in Australia on September 11 2000 s11.org was protesting against this very issue.   Even though most of those people involved in the attack were Saudi Arabian citizens another country (Afganistan) is carpetbombed and invaded.   Resulting unsupprisingly in the deaths of thousands of very poor and desperate people. Anyway...

Something else also happened on Tuesday September 11, 2001.   That was of course the day I founded Austnet's channel #Wollongong !!!   Since that time the channel has grown to become the number 1 Austnet channel for the south coast of NSW (Peak: 33).

This channel is managed differently to many others.   Visitors are reminded of the channel rules (see unacceptable behaviour) and the use of event (+e) and regulate (+r) modes.   Regulars and sensible chatters will need a voice (+v) to have unrestricted chat to all channel visitors.   The unique chat environment of Austnet #Wollongong is assisted by the the use of the following channel settings: (OpRestricted, MustID, OnChannel, HideAccess, Notify adduser, Notify deluser, Notify set, `command disabled, Fun Messages, ReportLog, Magic 8Ball)
