| This website is about Cringila. Part of the City of Wollongong and by car, bus or rail only a few minutes south of the city centre, the village grew from the 1930s alongside the blast furnaces and workshops of the steel industry which attracted people seeking employment from around the world. Cringila is a little north of Lake Illawarra and just south-west of Port Kembla's inner harbour. Cringila is in the Electorate of Throsby. Cringila has its own train station, hotel, school, community and medical services, sporting facilities and bushland regeneration areas. Lake Avenue offers a surprising variety of food, groceries and services; many not readily available elsewhere. Five Islands Road is dominated by automotive businesses and heavy industries including BHP Steel, BOC Gases and Boral. Photos on this page: Slideshow Thumbnails |
